The valley is a tri-armed valley which is towards the northeast of Ladakh and is 3048 meters from the sea level. It is also considered as the heaven on earth. It is necessary for the tourist to have Inner line permit if they want to explore the Nubra Valley. Nubra has been given to the area that consists of the valley of the river of Shayok and Nubra, flowing above and below the point of merging. These are the main water resources for the western and eastern sides of Karakoram ranges. Enjoy the rides on a camel with vegetation while admiring snow mountain peaks. 

The headquarters of Nubra Valley, Diskit town offers all types of facilities. It consists of the market which has shops in a single line as well as Gompa which is situated on a rocky drive above the village offering a beautiful view of the tourists and visitors.

The floors of the Valley are covered with thick horny shrubs which are used by the locals for fuel and fencing purpose. The villages are flourishing and huge around the valley which has thick plantations of willow and poplar.

Location

The valley is 150 km to North from the main town of Leh. The altitude of the valley is only little than the Leh. It is somewhere between 10,000 ft. which is 3,231 m at Hundar and 10,600 ft. which is 3231 m at Panamik.

Best time to visit the place

As per the weather conditions, the best time to visit the Nubra Valley is during the autumn which is between the months of July to September. 

Festivals and Fairs in Nubra Valley

One of the popular festivals of Nubra is Desmochhey festival or Dosmoche. It is also called the ‘Festival of Scapegoat’ celebrated at Diksit Monastery. The festival is also celebrated in Leh, Likir in February when the peak of Khardon gets covered with snow. The locals of the place gather together to enjoy the festival.

The major attraction of the festival is the mask dance performance by Lamas dressed in a dramatic way. It is the attraction of victory of good over the evil. The dance is also performed to avoid the negativities over the valley.

Tourist attractions

Around the valley, several ancient palaces and Gompas are there which are famous for the tourists. The villages nearby are great to enjoy the beautiful views of the valley while taking a stroll. Additionally, the 32-meters statue of Maitreya Buddha is the landmark and also the popular attraction for tourists.

How to reach?

To reach Nubra Valley, you need to pass through the Khardung La Pass which is also considered as the highest motor road all over the world. There’s another route available crossing Wari La from Sakti to Khardung La east, this connects to the main road of Nubra via Khalsar and Agham with the Shyok River. Also, if you want to use the air mode, the nearest airport is Leh.
