SindhuGhat is in Leh and it is 10-11 km ahead upwards from Indus River near Shrey. It is also considered as one of the most peaceful banks. Sindhu as well as Indus River are close to Mt Kailash and Mansarovar Lake in Tibet and then enter Pakistan and India by flowing through the Leh Valley. In Sanskrit, Sindhu means ‘large water body’ and the river is also one of the essential rivers in the history of India. 

The name of the country is after this river and the people in this country are known as Hindus which comes from the Sindhu name in Arab. The river is also the sacred river out of the seven mentioned in Indian history.

A popular festival named as SindhuDarshan Festival is organized in Leh and Ladakh. The festival is celebrated for three consecutive days and many locals attend this festival during these days. It is the best time to visit the place if one wants to experience the culture as well as the beauty of this heaven on Earth. 

SindhuGhat is at the distance of 8 km from Leh and is mostly visited by people for pooja and darshan. The festival also tends to celebrate to salute the brave souls who fought for the motherland, facing everything just to protect the country in Kargil, Siachen as well as other wars that have taken place till now.

Festival at Sindhu Ghat

The cultural event takes place for three days at the Ghat. The popular spring festival is called ‘LadakhSingheyKabab’. The famous festival takes place in June on the occasion of the Full moon which is locally called as ‘Guru Purnima’. The festival is so popular that people from all over the world attend and enjoys it. 

The festival is committed to the river of Sindhu. The festivals beginning is marked by fifty Buddhist Lamas performing the rituals sitting near the banks. Many different cultural events take place at the time of the event. The events include the dance performances by local people, campfire,and other different rituals. The three days festival ends with worshiping the river and local people name it as ‘SindhuPujan’ as they worship the river of Sindhu. Apart from this, SindhuGhat is also famous for river rafting and other adventure sports.

Best time to visit

The best time to visit the place is during the month of June when the annual festival called ‘LadakhSingheyKhabab’ takes place. You’ll get to know more about the culture of Buddhist once you are going to witness on your own. Enjoy the festival and get involved in the festive mood along with the monks and lamas. How to reach?

Leh Airport which is few kilometers away from the place can be used as a medium to reach the place. Most of the people usually get connected to the place with the medium of flights from various cities. Two highways connect Leh with different cities. First one is the National Highway which connects Srinagar via Kargil whereas another one is the Highway of LehManali. It is recommended not to take the route of the highway at the time of winters as they are covered with snow and can also lead to an accident. An individual can also visit Leh by rail and the nearest station is Jammu Railway Station.
