The palace built by King TsespalTondupNamgyal in the year 1825 now is the residential palace of royal descendants of the King. The palace architecture is the mixture of contemporary and traditional style. The property has so many beautiful gardens and also the library which has about 108 volumes of the collection of Lord Buddha. The palace is situated around 15 km away from the main Leh city.

The Stok Palace Museumorganizes the dance mask festival annually in which huge participation can be seen by the locals. One can also go through the collection of royal crowns, clothing as well as other essential things which you may explore while on the palace excursion. 

The Palace is a royal house which is situated little far from the Stok Monastery. The palace is a three-story building which also has a working restaurant in it.

There’s a small monastery inside the palace. Don’t confuse it with the Stok Monastery. It is situated within the premises of palace. You’ll find the small statues of Buddha, Padmasambhava, and others.

Library

Amongst the garden, there’s a royal library which has many interesting books including 108 volumes of the Lord Buddha Teachings.

Thorne room

Walk past the monastery to visit the throne room. You can find the Ladakhi wooden beams, painted ceiling, the picture of a king in traditional royal attire, dharma wheel, and others.

Best time to visit

If you are willing to visit the place when on a trip to Ladakh, May to September is the best time to visit here. The climate will remain calm and peaceful for sightseeing and the palace will be filled with the colorful blooms. The Palace remains closed from November to April because of cold weather and snowfall.

How to reach the palace?

It is situated 15 km away from the city of Leh. On a vehicle, it will take about 30 minutes to reach to Leh.
